Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today lost her cool when a journalist wanted to know whether her government would take action against the offending police officers who allegedly beat up newspersons reporting on the Left parties' march to the state secretariat on Monday.
"I will not answer your question. You are a reporter from Ganashakti (CPI-M's Bengali mouthpiece). Please don't do politics," Banerjee yelled at the questioner at the NSCBI airport here.
West Bengal parliamentary affairs minister Partha Chatterjee had yesterday regretted the unwarranted assault on journalists.
Several journalists and lensmen were allegedly beaten up by the police near Mayo road on that day. Some journalists were also hopsitalised.
Joint Police Commissioner (HQ) Supratim Sarkar had earlier stated, "We have received complaints and reports of a few journalists being beaten up and abused. We are extremely sorry for the incident and express our regret. The incident was undesirable. Those who have suffered injury, we wish them a speedy recovery," he had said.
"If the complaints are proved correct, departmental actions will be taken against the police personnel involved in the assault," Sarkar had said.
Meanwhile, journalists today held a rally to protest against the police action. The rally started from the Press Club and ended near Maidan market. Journalists carried placards demanding immediate action against the accused police officials.
