Newly-appointed chief of Mumbai Congress Janardhan Chandurkar today said he will focus on activating the cadre and eliminate infighting, while cornering the Shiv Sena and BJP over lack of progress in local issues.
"After the ongoing Parliamentary constituency-wise camps, I will organise such meetings at Assembly constituency, block and ward levels," Chandurkar told PTI.
He said he has told the party workers that most of the development issues of Mumbai first concern the civic body (controlled by Shiv Sena-BJP).
"If they fail to work, we should protest and create public opinion against Sena-BJP," he said.
"Issues like dumping ground, lack of basic amenities should be addressed to the civic body and not to the government. State government-run MMRDA is doing half the work of the civic body," he said.
Earlier in the day, the 'shibir' (camp) of party workers of Mumbai North East Parliamentary constituency was held at Ghatkopar. The seat is currently held by NCP.
"We do not have a single MLA here. There are only three Congress corporators. Former union minister and Congress leader Gurudas Kamat represented this seat for 25 years but had to shift to Mumbai North West due to delimitation," he said.
He added that he was successful in bringing all the warring groups from Mumbai North East together at today's meeting. "Kamat is also meeting all the party workers and exhorting them to come together," he said.
Yesterday's meeting of Mumbai North Central constituency was well-attended where Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan asked the city unit to publicise the decisions of the state government for Mumbai, he said.
