Paul Lalonde, the writer and producer of the original set of movies, and John Patus, who worked on the final entry 2005's "Left Behind: World at War", have written a screenplay, said the Hollywood Reporter.

They are hoping to take the movie series in a more mainstream direction and are eyeing a budget in the USD 15 million range.

The "Left Behind" movies, which starred Kirk Cameron and launched in 2001, were adapted from the mega-successful books written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.
