IT solutions provider NIIT Technologies today said it is targeting 5 per cent of its revenue from the SMAC (social, mobility, analytic and cloud) segment next year, mainly on an expected increase in business from the travel segment.
"The revenue from the SMAC business is expected to be around 5 per cent of the overall revenue in next year," NIIT Technologies Chief Executive Arvind Thakur told reporters at the 25th Nasscom leadership forum here.
NIIT provides IT solutions in application development and maintenance, managed services, IP assets/platform solutions and business process outsourcing in verticals like financial services, travel and transportation, manufacturing, distribution, healthcare and government sectors.
Global consultancy firm KPMG, in a recent report, projected SMAC as one of the key drivers of the IT industry's growth in the future.
"The industry is searching for its next big growth engine and technology leaders agree that the next phase of business models could be driven by the rise of SMAC and the convergence of technologies," a KPMG-Nasscom report said.
According to experts, SMAC, a new IT model of convergence, will be the platform that will enable organisations to drive consumerisation of technology.
Stating that the travel segment accounts for 40 per cent in the company's revenue, Thakur said it will remain one of the focus areas for the IT firm.
NIIT is a strategic partner of the global airlines body International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The company provides solutions to a host of global airlines, Thakur said, adding the recent Government move to unbundle air services offers a good opportunity for the business.
The company had reported 5.3 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 53.1 crore in the December quarter.
