No move to hold Hry assembly and LS polls together: Khattar

The state assembly elections would be held after the end of its tenure next year, said Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar today, putting to rest the speculations on synchronising it with the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

"The Vidhan Sabha elections in the state will be held on time," Khattar said, adding there was no move to hold the assembly polls with the 2019 general elections.

The Haryana assembly polls are due in October next year.

The chief minister exuded confidence that the BJP would again form governments both in the state and the Centre after the next election.

"I am confident the BJP will form governments both at the Centre as well as in Haryana for the second consecutive term," he added.

Khattar said during the tenure of the present BJP government in the state, various initiatives were taken "not only to ensure the development of the state but also to bring about a positive change in the mindset of the people".

"We have done a lot in this direction but still more needs to be done. We will not stop and will undertake more work in our second tenure," he added.

Replying to a question, Khattar said his party would decide as to who would be the BJP's face during the next assembly elections.

He said his objective behind contesting election was not to become the chief minister but to serve the people of the state.

Khattar was interacting with reporters on the sidelines of 'Shaurya Samman-Haryana' organised to honour Haryana police personnel for their exemplary works in ensuring the safety and security of the citizens.

Khattar said for the last four years, he spent considerable time to review the progress of various schemes in the state and stayed around with the people "rather than camping in Delhi to settle political scores as my predecessors used to do."
The issue of Chandigarh should have been decided at the same time, he said, adding "Haryana has staked its claim over Chandigarh and we are not going to retreat."
