North braces itself for another bout of cold as snow lashes HP

North India braced itself for another cold spell as tribal areas and higher hills of Himachal Pradesh got a fresh bout of snowfall while mid and lower areas were lashed by rains, leading to a sharp decline in mercury.
In high altitude tribal areas temperature stayed between minus 22 and minus 34 degree Celsius.
The sprawling Dhauladhar ranges in Kangra, Churdhar ranges in Sirmaur and high mountain passes of Chansel, Kunzam, Saach and Rohtang received another spell of snowfall while mid and lower hills received widespread rains.
Tribal areas of Bharmaur got 30 cm of fresh snow while Keylong and Kalpa received 12 cm of snow, followed by Chhatarari 10 cm, Saloni 5 cm and Khadrala 2 cm.

Kheri received 31 mm rains, while Ghamroor and Baijnath received 28 mm and 27 mm of rains, followed by Palampur 24 mm, Manali and Chamba 21 mm, Gaggal 20 mm, Nagrota Suriyan, Kotkhai and Nahan 15 mm each, Renuka 14 mm, Dehra Gopipur 13 mm, Paonta Sahib and Nurpur 12 mm and Mehre and Naina Devi 10 mm each.
Maximum temperatures dropped by three to four deg C to stay at 19.3 deg C at Nahan, 18.4 deg C at Sundernagar and Solan, Dharamsala 16.2 deg C, Bhuntar 13.5 deg C, Manali 4.0 deg C and Kalpa 3.0 deg C.

Bharmaur recorded minimum temperature at minus 8.1 deg C while Keylong and Kalpa recorded a low of minus 5.4 deg C and minus 1.8 deg C, followed by Manali 1.4 deg C, Shimla 2.2 deg C, Nahan 3.6 deg C, Palampur 5.0 deg C, Solan 5.2 deg C and Dharamsala 6.2 deg C.

However, Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Una recorded minimum temperature above 9 deg C, three to five degree above normal.
Sky remained heavily overcast and intermittent rains accompanied by strong winds lashed the region and Shimla and Sundernagar received 3 mm of rains.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region over the next four days and isolated rains from February 27.
