"The plant was imported by Rotary Club from Florida (USA) at a cost of Rs 36 lakh and another Rs 16 lakh was spent on its construction and building a gas bank but it could not be run due to operational problems.

"Its the only plant of its kind in north India and has now been handed over to Sood Sabha," President of Rotary Club Rohit Karol today said.

Karol said the plant is eco-friendly since it was run on LPG and didn't use wood, that is used in the conventional crematorium.

The charges fixed for LPG cremation is Rs 2,000 against Rs 7,000 required for cremation in the traditional way, which included the cost of the wood, transportation and other materials.
