One month ban order in Neyveli

Prohibitory orders were promulgated today for one month in Neyveli as the indefinite strike by more than 10,000 contract labourers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation entered the fifth day today.
The order, banning agitations, processions, meetings and dharnas, would be in force till October 7, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Neyveli Sub-Division, G Kalaiselvan said.
On September 5, the High Court had passed an interim order on a petition by the public sector company, restraining nine unions from proceeding with the strike till October 7.
Kalaiselvan said permission given for a public meeting by the unions today at Mandarakuppam near Neyveli was also cancelled.

Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee of 17 trade unions today decided to participate in the tripartite meeting convened by the Zonal Commissioner at Chennai tomorrow.
T Srinivasan, JAC Secretary, said the strike would continue if the talks failed.
NLC Public Relations Officer S Sridhar said the strike had not affected power generation at NLC's thermal plants or lignite production.
