"Kkoli is the first film in popular genre having brought back the heroine as the pivot of the story, not as an arm candy," the film's female lead Ruplekha told PTI.
Kkoli, which is running successfully at the box office for third consecutive week, has indigenized the Gregory Peck-Hepburn starrer ever green classic for the Bengali audience and broke the usual pattern of mainstream films, Ruplekha said.
Rueing the women-centric mainstream films like Sagarika, Pathe Holo Deri almost ceased to exist 89s onwards in the masala genre, the popular model-turned-actor hoped Kkoli's success will inspire other film makers to try new ideas but not copies from South.
Kkoli, produced by Vignesh Film, also starred popular folk musician and Bangla band Bhoomi frontman Surojit in a cameo.
"We have sought to recreate the 90s' feel in the soundscape of the movie," popular Bollywood musical troika Meet Bros Anjjan said about their debut musical stint in the flick set in the picturesque Dooars belt of North Bengal.
