Select spices down on sluggish demand, adequate supply

Prices of select spices, led by jeera, fell up to Rs 200 per quintal at the wholesale kirana market today owing to slackened demand against adequate stocks position.
Traders said besides easing demand from retailers at prevailing levels, adequate stocks in the market on higher supplies from producing belts mainly pulled down prices of select spices.
Besides, a weak trend at futures market influenced the sentiment, they said.
In the national capital, jeera common, best quality fell by Rs 200 each to Rs 16,600-17,100 and Rs 20,100-20,600 per quintal, respectively.
Coriander and turmeric also eased by Rs 100 each at Rs 11,200-16,200 and Rs 8800-12,600 per quintal, respectively.
Following are today's quotations (in Rs):
Ajwain (per kg) 150-185, black pepper (per kg) 560-740, betel-nut (kg) 300-350, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,690-1,700 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,800-1,900.
Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 770-830, cardamom (colour robin) 770-790, cardamom bold 780-800, cardamom extra (bold) 910-960 and cloves 710-830.
