Sharad comes out in support of Narsingh, demands CBI probe

Former JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav today came out in support of wrestler Narsingh Yadav and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order a CBI inquiry into his claims that he was a victim of a conspiracy.
"It is a matter of shame that he in his own country has been defeated by our own people with their ulterior motives. Narsingh Yadav is a very bright and strong wrestler who was to become a hero of the country by defeating his opponents at the Rio Olympics but has fallen victim to his opponents in his own country," the JD(U) leader said in a letter to Modi.

"I shall be grateful if you could kindly order a CBI inquiry into this incident immediately that will help not only this wrestler to participate in Rio but also repair the damage caused to his reputation," he added.
Narsingh Yadav's hopes of competing in wrestling in 74 kg category in Rio Olympics faded away after he was tested positive in two dope tests.
It is learnt that Narsingh, already under provisional suspension for failing a June 25 dope test, has also flunked the second test done on his 'A' sample on July 5 and refused the 'B' sample test.
The Rajya Sabha member said an Olympic prospect like Narsingh should have been given adequate facilities and security.

The suspense over his Olympic participation was yesterday prolonged after the National Anti-Doping Agency deferred its final verdict on the doping scandal surrounding him to Saturday or Monday.
