England claimed four wickets in the morning session but dropped a series of catches, letting Bangladesh post a challenging score on the third day of the second Test here today.
The hosts, resuming on 152-3, reached 268-7 at lunch in Dhaka to extend their second-innings lead to 244.
Adil Rashid struck in the last over before the break to dismiss Sabbir Rahman and expose the tail, after Bangladesh had added 116 in the morning session.
Imrul Kayes was the first wicket to fall on Sunday. He departed for 78 but not before being dropped twice in the slips, on 66 by Alastair Cook off Zafar Ansari and on 74 by Joe Root off Moeen Ali.
Ali finally trapped Kayes leg before. But England proved unable to grasp their opportunities, with Jonny Bairstow missing a simple stumping chance off Ansari when Shakib Al Hasan was on 16.
Ansari was denied again by Ben Duckett, who dropped a simple catch at deep midwicket to give Shakib a second lease of life on 23.
Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim also had his share of luck when he was dropped by Steven Finn off Ansari on six.
Adil Rashid finally bowled Shakib to end his carefree innings on 41, with the score on 238 for five.
Rahim fell before another run had been added, edging Ben Stokes to Cook at slip for nine. Rashid then took his second wicket of the morning when he trapped Sabbir Rahman leg before for 15.
England will hope to make quick work of the tailenders so they can chase a manageable target as they try to maintain their perfect record against the hosts. The visitors heaved a sigh of relief when their key batsman Root returned to the field Sunday after suffering a stomach upset.
The 25-year-old left the field in the evening session on the second day and it had been uncertain whether he would take any further part in the game.
