Congress today batted for a "stringent law" to check fixing incidents in cricket to avoid their recurrence and asked for a thorough probe in the IPL spot-fixing scandal while steering clear of questions on the growing demand for BCCI President N Srinivasan's resignation.
"Whatever is happening in the world of cricket these days has hurt crores of cricket lovers. All this should be probed and those who are responsible should be punished. A system should be put in place so that such incidents are not repeated in future," party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi told reporters here.
Speaking separately, party spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das said there should be a "stringent law to tackle this."
"Talks are already going on between the Sports Ministry and the Law Ministry in this regard," he said.
The party spokesperson at the same steered clear of questions about the controversy surrounding the clamour for the BCCI President's resignation in the wake of the spot-fixing scandal.
"This is BCCI and IPL matter. In no way our party is concerned with that. People, who are concerned are supposed to answer that," he said.
