Five persons were arrested following the lynching of Krishna Prasad Jana, a third year BA student of Sabang College yesterday following complaints by the leaders of Chhatra Parishad, students wing of the Congress, which controls the college union.
The CCTV was installed in the union room and its footage did not show anyone of the arrested accused, Superintendent of Police Bharati Ghosh said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday said that Jana was beaten up by a bat inside the union room.
However, there were allegations that Jana was beaten to death near the library building during a clash between members of student wings of Congress and Trinammool Congress over going to a felicitation of West Bengal Minister Soumen Kumar Mahapatra who was visiting the district.
BJP state unit chief Rahul Sinha visited Jana's house and demanded a CBI probe into the case.
