The husband of a local leader of the Trinamool Congress was arrested in Cooch Behar district around a month after he posted a photo of himself carrying a carbine on social media, police said Tuesday.
Naresh Debnath, husband of the deputy chief of Baroatiabari gram panchayat, was arrested from Dinhata area, Cooch Behar SP Bholanath Pande said.
In his Facebook page, Debnath had posted the photo carrying the carbine with a caption "Don no. 1 of Dinhata".
Carbine is a sophisticated automatic rifle.
After the photo went viral, Debnath went into hiding and he was picked up on Sunday night.
Following intense interrogation, he was arrested on Monday.
Pande said they are trying to find out how the carbine which was seized earlier, reached the district.
