The Astro-timers (astronomic programmable timers) are meant for automated streetlight functioning. They have been deployed to automatically switch on-and-off the lights according to sunrise and sunset for a particular location, said a Tata Power-Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL) official said in a statement.
The digital devices ensure time management of streetlights and prevent wastage of electricity while ensuring safety of people, the statement said.
During the winter season, the street lights fitted with Astro-timers will be switched on at 5.30 pm in the evening and will be switched-off at 6.45 am in the morning for proper lighting and visibility on roads.
It is also maintaining 10,000 new and efficient octagonal street light poles which have been recently installed by the PWD replacing the old poles.
