Trader shot at

foiled kidnap bid at Kumargram in Jalpaiguri district, police said today.

Six-seven persons arrived at Rajkumar Newar's house at Kumargram last evening and tried to kidnap him. When Newar shouted for help, the men started firing at Newar and fired 6-7 shots at him before fleeing.

The police said the persons were suspected to have come from Assam, which is a bordering state.

Newar owns a large grocery shop at Kumargram.
