In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Fertilisers Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said the budgetary allocation under urea subsidy for the current year was Rs 54,400.01 crore and the Ministry utilised Rs 51,878 crore at the end of February 2015.
"The Budget allocation for urea during the current financial year is not sufficient. The carry over liabilities for the last financial year 2013-14 is worth Rs 17,834.44 crore have been paid out of the current year allocation of budget," Ahir said.
For the next financial year, the government has pegged fertiliser subsidy at Rs 72,968.56 crore, higher than Rs 70,967.31 crore estimated for this year.
In fertiliser subsidy, the government allocated Rs 38,200 crore for domestic urea and Rs 12,300 crore for imported urea.
The remaining Rs 22,468.56 crore had been earmarked for sale of decontrolled P&K fertilisers.
