Vasan hits campaign trail

Senior Congress leader and Union Minister G K Vasan today described as a "good path" his party contesting on its own the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu and claimed it alone can provide stable government and any other formation would collapse in three months.
Launching his campaign for the April 24 polls from this temple town, considered a Congress forte in the past, and canvassing votes for three party candidates, including Mani Shankar Aiyar (Mayiladuthurai), the former TNCC chief said after a long gap, Congress was facing the election on its own.
"This is a beginning and it is a good path and no one can obstruct this path. I believe the golden rule in the state can be redeemed," an apparent reference to the Congress regime under K Kamaraj in the 1960s.

Seeking votes on the stability plank, he said, "If any other party other than Congress comes to power, it will lose the rule within three months."
Listing out various schemes of the central government, he took a dig at DMK and AIADMK without naming them saying the Dravidian parties deceived the people by claiming that all the schemes were implemented by them.
Attacking the BJP, he said it was a religious oriented party and should be disregarded by the people.
In a veiled referrence to Gujarat riots, he said Narendra Modi "has got a black mark and you will automatically vote for Congress if you think of him".

Besides, Modi had also not been accepted by BJP senior leaders, he said.
