A Vigilance Court today sentenced a 70-year-old retired agriculture officer to 42 months' (three and half years) imprisonment after convicting him in a disproportionate assets case.
The court also slapped Rs 8 lakh as fine on the former Deputy Director of Agriculture Sharat Kumar Mohanty and another six months' imprisonment in case of default.
A case had been registered against Mohanty more than 20 years ago in July 1994 on the charge of accummulating disproportionate assets worth Rs 7.73 lakh, after searching his residential house at Bankasahi in Bhadrak district.
