Japanese two-wheeler major Yamaha is recalling 902 units of its YZF-R3 sports bike in India to replace faulty clutch system.

"The parent company Yamaha Motor Co, Japan, has determined that a defect, which relates to clutch pressure plate and oil pump malfunction, exists in few YZF-R3 motorcycles falling within certain production numbers," India Yamaha Motor said in a statement.

Although no safety issues have been reported from anywhere in India, Yamaha has decided to recall all the vehicles falling under the identified production numbers, it added.

"A total of 902 bikes will be recalled in India under Yamaha's factory modification campaign, where the affected motorcycles' defected parts will be replaced with a modified one on 'free of cost' basis at Yamaha authorised dealers," the company said.

The company, however, did not share details of the manufacturing period of the affected motorcycles.

This recall is not a result of complaints from customers but more of a preventive measure to ensure the safety of the customers, it added.

In 2014, the company had recalled 138 units its R1 bike in India to rectify issues in the headlight. Yamaha had also recalled its 56,082 units of scooter Cygnus Ray in 2013 to rectify defect in handle bars.
