Former Bihar Chief Minister and a veteran Congress leader Bhagwat Jha Azad is likely to join the BJP in a few days.
He met Bharatiya Janata Party president LK Advani yesterday in this connection. Details of the arrangement was yet to be worked out, a party functionary said.
The partys major coup yesterday was inclusion of Som Pal, the Jat leader from western Uttar Pradesh. Pal expressed his willingness to contest from the Baghpat Lok Sabha constituencies though party general secretary Sushma Swaraj refused to commit.
About fifty retired senior army officers, including two lieutenant generals, six major generals and eight brigadiers, and Guru Hanuman, the famous wrestler, also joined the BJP in an impressive ceremony.
Advani said this demonstrated that the ex-servicemen were impressed with the BJPs dsicipline and commitment to the nation.
He demanded that the Union government should bring an ordinance to allow proxy voting by armed forces personnel.
The functions convenor Captain Vikram Singh (retd.) said that about 5,000 ex-servicemen would work for booth management for the BJP in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
