EmpowerTel Networks and LG Soft India yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to form a end-to-end VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) solutions joint venture.
Under the MoU, LG Soft, a subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc, Korea, and EmpowerTel Networks, US, will pool their resources and market experience for co-development of enhancements to EmpowerTel's USX1000 VoIP switch.
The new company, LG EmpowerTel, will set up a research and development (R&D) centre in Bangalore which will involve an initial investment of $2 million. The R&D unit, expected to be operational by July, will undertake core software development and product integration of the USX1000 with LG's class 4/5 switches, IP-PBX, VoIP routers, VoIP integrated access devices and IP phones.
LG EmpowerTel will focus on software development and country specific adaptation solutions.
"This demonstrates our continued commitment to delivering best-in-class solutions for the global market," said Ajit Medhekar, chief executive officer and chairman, EmpowerTel Networks.
