Itc Leads Bull Charge

The return of the bulls led to improvement of sentiment on the Calcutta Stock Exchange yesterday. The CSE-40 index reached a high of 1916.24 points, but fell slightly to close at 1911.97 points, 17.40 points higher than its close on Monday.
It was a mixed day for IT scrips. Satyam Computer gained Rs 104 to close at Rs 2,960.50, DSQ Software advanced Rs 12 at Rs 600, while Pentamedia Graphics lost Rs 7 at Rs 469.20 and Digital Computers lost Rs 5 at Rs 674.80.
Satyam and Zee Telefilms were the most actively traded scrips.
The day's major gainer was ITC which at one point hit the upper circuit filter. The scrip advanced Rs 42 to close at Rs 621 (previous close Rs 579.30). Hindustan Lever Ltd recorded marginal gains _ it was up Rs 4 to close at Rs 2,320 at close. Reliance Industries and Associated Cement Companies suffered marginal losses to close at Rs 317.50 (previous close Rs 318.90) and Rs 110.60 (Rs 111), respectively.
Telecom scrips Global Tele-Systems and Himachal Futuristic Communications (HFCL) had an even day. While Global Tele-Systems was unchanged at Rs 935.30, HFCL advanced less than a rupee to close at Rs 737.40.
