| Designed to help their customers envision and build solutions which are interoperable, this is Microsoft's first such lab in India. |

| "Interoperability is as critical a challenge as security and reliability to the health of an organisation's IT environment. With open dialogue and on ground work with the industry and academia we hope to collectively address this emerging and important issue," said Ravi Venkatesan, chairman, Microsoft India. |

| Located in the premises of Microsoft Technical Centre in Bangalore, the Interoperability lab will encompass all benefits of the technical centre which include access to world-class infrastructure, experts and Open Source Lab in Redmond, the company said. |

| The lab will showcase and build interoperability solutions for specific heterogeneous technology scenarios like cross platform rich web application and line of business application integration, virtualisation and management of heterogeneous platforms. |

| The company has also announced one Open Source Technology Programme in India. The programme aims at furthering research and development of open source applications on Windows platform in collaboration with engineering institutions in India. |

| To start with, the company has signed agreement with IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Guwahati, IIIT-Bangalore and IIIT-Hyderabad to offer the programme. |
