Openers provide early momentum
UAE began steadily through Mohammad Waseem and Aryansh Sharma, who added 38 runs for the opening wicket to lay a solid platform. Waseem looked aggressive during his 22 off 12 balls before George Linde struck the first blow, trapping him lbw to break the stand.
Sharma, however, struggled to accelerate and fell for 13 off 17 balls in the next over, miscued off Corbin Bosch while attempting a big shot and offering Kwena Maphaka a straightforward catch.
Middle overs belong to South Africa
Bosch continued to make inroads as Sohaib Khan departed for 6, allowing South Africa to tighten their grip on the game. Syed Haider also found it difficult to get going, managing just 6 off 15 deliveries before Anrich Nortje dismissed him.
With wickets falling regularly, UAE’s momentum slowed significantly as the Proteas bowlers maintained disciplined lines and prevented any sustained partnerships.
Sharafu fights, Bosch finishes strongly
Alishan Sharafu tried to anchor the innings with a composed 45 off 38 balls, offering some resistance during the middle overs. However, Nortje returned to remove the set batter at a crucial moment, ensuring UAE could not build towards a late surge.
Corbin Bosch capped off an impressive outing with the ball, conceding only four runs in the final over and dismissing Mohammad Arfan for 11, as UAE closed their innings at 122 for 6 — a total that leaves South Africa firmly in control heading into the chase.

The South African skipper confirmed four changes to the playing XI as the side looks to rotate its squad and provide game time to those who have been waiting on the sidelines. South Africa included Jason Smith, George Linde, Anrich Nortje and teenage left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka in the XI alongside their key bowling trio of Kagiso Rabada, Corbin Bosch and Nortje.
UAE captain Muhammad Waseem said his side would also have preferred to bowl first, given the early assistance on offer. “It does look like there’s a little bit in it early on, maybe a bit of moisture,” Waseem said, adding that the key would be to negotiate the initial phase and build partnerships before accelerating later in the innings.
Despite being knocked out of contention for the next stage, Waseem said UAE were keen to finish their campaign strongly. “It’s been a decent tournament for us. We’ve learned a lot, especially playing against some of the best teams in the world,” he said.
UAE made changes to their XI, bringing in Dhruv Parashar and Muhammad Farooq to strengthen their balance. Waseem indicated the decision was also influenced by South Africa’s left-handed batters, prompting them to add extra spin options.
South Africa’s playing XI features Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton at the top, followed by Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs and Markram, with an emphasis on pace-heavy bowling resources for the conditions.
