100K youngsters to be recruited in UP Police in next two years: CM Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced that the government will recruit one lakh youngsters in police over the next two years. In his address at the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha meeting and membership workshop, he hailed the government and said, "Today there is no discrimination against the youth in the state. Youth are being linked to government jobs in a fair and transparent manner."

Helicopter crash that killed Iran's president was caused by climatic conditions: Report

An official investigation into the helicopter crash in May that killed Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi and seven other people found it was caused by challenging climatic and atmospheric conditions, Iranian state TV reported Sunday. The final report of the Supreme Board of the General Staff of the Armed Forces said the main cause of the helicopter crash was the complex climatic conditions of the region in spring, state TV said.

Federal investigators start probe of bus crash in Mississippi that killed 7, injured dozens more

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board on Sunday were at the scene of a bus crash in Mississippi that killed seven people and injured dozens of others.
 

They plan to look at how well the tires were maintained, NTSB member Todd Inman said at a news conference late Saturday. The NTSB previously said the crash was caused by tire failure.
 

The 2018 Volvo bus was traveling westbound on Interstate 20 near Bovina in Warren County early Saturday morning when it left the roadway and overturned, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. No other vehicle was involved.
 

Six people aboard were pronounced dead at the scene and another died at a hospital, according to a highway patrol news release. Thirty-six people were taken by ambulance to hospitals.
 

The highway patrol did not immediately have an update on their conditions Sunday.
 

The dead included a 6-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister, according to Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey. They were identified by their mother.

Israel's largest trade union calls general strike for Monday as protests swell after hostage deaths

 Israel's largest trade union has called a general strike on Monday following the deaths of six hostages in the Gaza Strip.
 

The Histadrut, which represents some 800,000 workers in such areas as health care, transportation and banking, said the strike would begin on Monday morning.
 

It is aimed at stepping up pressure on the government to reach a cease-fire that would bring home the remaining hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.

Car sales news: Hyundai sales decline 12% to 63,175 units in August 2024

Hyundai Motor India on Sunday reported a 12 per cent year-on-year increase in total sales at 63,175 units in August.
 

The company sold a total of 71,435 units in August 2023, the automaker said in a statement.
 

Domestic dispatch of vehicles to dealers saw an 8 per cent dip to 49,525 units last month from 53,830 units in the year-ago period.
 

Exports declined 22 per cent last month to 13,650 units, as compared to 17,605 units in the year-ago period.

Former JJP leaders Anoop Dhanak, Ram Kumar Gautam, Jogi Ram Sihag join BJP

Former Jannayak Janta Party leaders Anoop Dhanak, Ram Kumar Gautam and Jogi Ram Sihag, who quit the party recently, joined the BJP on Sunday giving the ruling party in Haryana a boost ahead of the October 5 Assembly poll.
 

The three leaders along with Ambala Mayor Shakti Rani Sharma were welcomed into the BJP fold by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the party's state unit chief Mohan Lal Badoli and its Haryana affairs co-incharge Biplab Kumar Deb at a rally in Jind.
 

Sharma is the wife of Haryana Janchetna Party chief and former Union Minister Venod Sharma. Her son and Independent Rajya Sabha member Kartikeya Sharma was also present at the Jind event.
 

Dhanak, Gautam and Sihag were Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) MLAs when they abandoned the party.
 

Gautam, who was with the BJP earlier, represented the Narnaund segment in Haryana Assembly after winning the seat on a Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) ticket in 2019. He, however, did not get a ministerial berth in the BJP-JJP coalition government and was also a vocal critic of former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala on various issues.

UPI numbers scale fresh peak in August; volume up, value dips marginally

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions saw a 3 per cent rise in volume in August to 14.96 billion, compared to 14.44 billion in July. On the other hand, in value terms, the month saw a marginal dip to Rs 20.61 trillion compared to Rs 20.64 trillion in July. In volume terms, this is the highest number since UPI became operational in April 2016.
