The Ayush services sector has emerged as one of India's fastest-growing service segments, with its economic contribution estimated at USD 36.92 billion in 2024-25 and the sector projected to expand to USD 216-318 billion by 2047, according to a study. The sector recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.91 per cent since 2022-23 and directly supported 1.76 million livelihoods, the study by the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) said. The report, released during the 11th Ayurveda Day celebrations in Nagpur on September 23, also estimated that the sector generated USD 1.77 billion in Medical Value Travel (MVT) revenue in 2024-25. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a dedicated licensing and registration window for Ayurveda Aahara products on its Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal, marking a significant step towards formalising the traditional Ayurvedic food sector. The new framework, operating under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, will enable manufacturers across the country to apply for licences to produce and market traditional Ayurvedic foods through a streamlined process. The initiative introduces a 'Kind of Business' (KoB) framework specifically for Ayurveda Aahara, designed to align traditional recipes documented in authoritative Ayurvedic texts with contemporary food safety and quality standards. The 10th World Ayurveda Congress and AROGYA Expo began here on Thursday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that the ancient Indian system of medicine has the potential to strengthen the global healthcare systems. In a message read out at the inaugural function of the event, Modi also reiterated the government's commitment to promote Ayurveda. Kairali Ayurvedic Group is aiming a consolidated revenue of Rs 150 crore by FY26, led by the expansion of its hospitality and Ayurveda treatment centres along with ramp-up of FMCG and OTC business, said its Executive Director Abhilash K Ramesh. The 76-year-old Kairali Ayurvedic Group (KAG) is largely split into three divisions - Ayurveda Centers, Hospitality and Ayurvedic Products - and each is charting its own growth plans, both in domestic as well as foreign markets. The group, which has a debt-free balance sheet, has its entire focus on organic growth by preserving its heritage, in hospitality and in its products business, he added. The Supreme Court sought the Centre's response on a plea seeking inclusion of ayurveda, yoga, and naturopathy in the national Ayushman Bharat scheme. A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra issued the notice to the Centre and others on the petition filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay. The plea, which sought inclusion of the practices in PM-JAY, also known as Ayushman Bharat, said the inclusion would allow a significant portion of the country's population to avail affordable healthcare benefits and wellness in various serious diseases, apart from providing employment to many working in the field of Ayurveda. Ayushman Bharat, which was launched in 2018, has two main components -- PM-JAY and Health and Wellness Centres. The former provides for a cashless health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per BPL family every year. The petitioner sought the scheme to be implemented in all states and the Indian healthcare systems.
