The rains in Bengaluru on Wednesday evening wreaked havoc, killing 10 people, authorities said. Heavy rains coupled with a hailstorm and gusty winds uprooted trees, flooded many key stretches and threw traffic out of gear, they said on Thursday. Large parts of the city witnessed sudden, intense rainfall for nearly an hour, bringing down trees and electric poles, crushing parked vehicles and inundating low-lying areas, while several roads were rendered impassable, severely disrupting vehicular movement during peak hours. Seven people, including a six-year-old girl, were killed when a compound wall of the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital collapsed amid the downpour. Average monthly rentals for prime office spaces in Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR have crossed Rs 100 per sq ft mark for the first time as demand for prime workspaces exceeds supply, according to Knight Frank data. In Mumbai, the average office rentals are already above Rs 100 per sq ft. Real estate consultant Knight Frank data showed that the average rentals for office spaces rose in a range of 2-15 per cent during January-March 2026 across eight major cities of India compared to the same period last year. The maximum annual growth of 15 per cent in office rent was seen in Delhi-NCR and Kolkata. "The supply constraints across key markets have supported a sustained rental upcycle since early 2022...," the consultant said in its latest Q1 (January-March) 2026 report on the Indian office market. A Fly91 flight from Hyderabad to Hubballi was diverted to Bengaluru due to adverse weather conditions, with airport officials maintaining that all passengers were safe. The incident caused panic among the passengers as the aircraft remained airborne for three hours on Sunday. Some of the scared passengers were in tears and started praying for their safety. The flight, which departed Hyderabad at around 3.30 pm, was scheduled to land in Hubballi at about 4.30 pm but was unable to do so due to unfavourable weather, sources said. "Due to bad weather, the flight from Hyderabad to Hubballi was diverted to Bengaluru," an airport official said, adding that such diversions are a standard safety measure. Delhi Police has arrested a man from Mysuru in Karnataka for allegedly sending more than 1,100 hoax bomb threats to schools, high courts and government offices across the country, officials said on Monday. The accused, identified as Srinivas Louis, 47, was apprehended from his rented accommodation on Saturday following a joint operation by Delhi Police and local police teams, the officials said. The arrest comes amid a recent spate of bomb threat messages being sent to the Delhi High Court, assembly and several educational and government institutions. Police said Louis is a postgraduate and a native of Bengaluru. He is currently unemployed and lives with his mother, a retired government employee. "Preliminary investigation suggests that he may have been under mental stress. During initial interrogation, the accused confessed to sending over 1,100 threat messages across the country via emails and other communication platforms," a senior officer said. Realty firm Brigade Enterprises Ltd is expecting a revenue of more than Rs 1,100 crore from a new housing project in Bengaluru. In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, the company said it has launched 'Brigade Belvedere', a 10.75-acre residential development in East Bengaluru. This initial phase of the project comprises 773 premium residential units with an estimated revenue potential exceeding Rs 1,100 crore, it added. Realty firm Godrej Properties Ltd has acquired 20 acres in Bengaluru to develop a housing project with an estimated revenue of Rs 1,350 crore. In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, the company said it has acquired a 20-acre land parcel in East Bengaluru. Godrej Properties did not mention the land cost. "The company plans to develop a premium residential project on this site with an estimated revenue potential of approximately Rs 1,350 crore," the company said. Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao on Saturday said steps will be taken to establish more biogas plants within the GBA limits. Speaking to reporters after visiting the waste-to-energy (Kasa-Rasa) facility at Koramangala under the Bengaluru South City Corporation limits, he said a comprehensive study will be undertaken to produce biogas from wet waste in the city and to establish biogas plants in GBA city corporations. He said that for establishing decentralised centres in city corporations, around two-three acres of land will be required in each corporation. In the short term, existing facilities will be upgraded to produce biogas and steps will be taken to supply the gas to nearby hotels. Rao added that proper segregation of wet and dry waste at the local level will greatly help the process. A total of 21 flights were cancelled at Kempegowda International Airport on Wednesday due to airspace restrictions affecting services to several West Asian destinations, BIIAL said. In a statement, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which manages the airport, said that due to airspace restrictions on 11th March 2026, as many as 11 arrival flights and 10 departure flights were cancelled. The BIAL added that the cancellations primarily affected flights operating on key international sectors including Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Dubai and Doha, which witnessed disruptions due to the airspace curbs.
Hotel and restaurant operations in the city are likely to be affected starting March 10, following a sudden and total halt in the supply of commercial gas cylinders, the Bangalore Hotels Association said on Monday. This development comes amid rising energy costs and supply constraints caused by the West Asia conflict. "Since the gas supply has stopped, the hotels will be closed from tomorrow," the association said in a release. Noting that the supply of commercial gas cylinders stopped today, it said, since the hotel industry is an essential service, common people, students, and medical professionals, who rely on the hotels for daily meals, will be affected. "In addition, our hotel industry will also face difficulties until the gas supply returns to normal," it added.
