Yashasvi Jaiswal will score more than 40 Test hundreds: Glenn Maxwell

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes Yashasvi Jaiswal's ability to adapt to various conditions and minimal weaknesses will see the Indian opener score over 40 Test centuries and rewrite multiple records. Hailed as one of Indian cricket's brightest young talents, the 22-year-old made a dazzling start to his Test career. He cemented his spot in the team with a stunning performance against England earlier this year. "He's (Jaiswal) a guy that will probably get more than 40 Test hundreds, and write some different records. He's got a great ability to adapt to different conditions," Maxwell said on 'The Grade Cricketer' podcast. Playing his first Test Down Under, Jaiswal left an indelible impression with a remarkable 161 in the second innings as India defeated Australia to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. His knock in Perth was his fourth century in just 15 Tests. The southpaw has converted each of those tons into a 150+ score. Jaiswal has so far collected 1,568 runs at

Maxwell reveals Kohli blocked him on Instagram for mocking his injury

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed that Virat Kohli had blocked him on Instagram after he mocked the Indian batting maestro following his shoulder injury during the 2017 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kohli and Maxwell were not the best of friends until the Australian joined IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2021 for a whopping Rs 14.25 crore. Maxwell said that he tried to follow Kohli on Instagram, only to discover that he had been blocked by the former India captain. "When I knew I was going to RCB, Virat was the first guy to message me and welcome me to the team. When I turned up for the pre-IPL training camp, we obviously got chatting and spent a fair bit of time training together as you do," Maxwell said during the Willow Talk podcast on LiSTNR Sport. "So, I go to his social media (to) follow him. Didn't even think about it before that. Never really crossed my mind. I was like, 'I can't find him'. "I'm sure he's on social media somewhere, so I didn't think

IPL 2024: RCB's Maxwell takes 'mental-physical' break' after horrid start

Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has decided to take a mental and physical break from the Indian Premier League after going through a modest run in the tournament. Maxwell's absence from RCB's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad here on Monday was initially attributed to a finger injury he suffered during the previous match against Mumbai Indians, but he later admitted that he has taken a break from the league. It was a pretty easy decision. I went to Faf and the coaches after the last game (vs Mumbai Indians) and said it was probably time we tried someone else (in his place). It's actually a good time to give myself a bit of a mental and physical break, get my body right, Maxwell said in the post-match press meet. If I'm required to get in during the tournament, I can, hopefully, get back into a solid mental and physical space where I can make an impact, he added. Maxwell was quite underwhelming with the bat in the six matches he has played this season, making

IPL 2024: No injury concerns to Maxwell at the minute - RCB's Mo Bobat

Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, on Sunday allayed fitness concerns surrounding Glenn Maxwell ahead of their IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad here. Maxwell had suffered a hit on his thumb while fielding in RCB's previous match against Mumbai Indians, but Bobat said the Australian all-rounder has recovered well. "Maxi has had a couple of scans, and he's okay at the minute. So, there's no injury concerns. He's going to practice today and get more of a feel," said Bobat in the pre-match press meet. Maxwell has been going through a shabby IPL this season, having managed to score just 32 runs from six matches at an average of 5.33. However, Bobat backed Maxwell to turn things around sooner than later. "He's disappointed. He obviously has high standards and has a very, very impressive 12 to 24 months. He's in our plans, and is an important part of our batting lineup. So, up until now, we're trying to support him as best as we can and help him find

Bumrah needs off-season: McGrath makes big remark on Indian pacer's action

Jasprit Bumrah needs an 'off-season' since his bowling action with an extensive effort' could result in ace India pacer suffering further injuries, warned legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath here on Tuesday. Bumrah spent a lengthy period on the sidelines for undergoing a surgery for stress fracture on his back in March 2023, while being already out of action since September 2022. In between, he also missed the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia as well as the IPL 2023. The right-arm pacer, who returned to action a little earlier than anticipated to lead India in their three-match T20I tour of Ireland last August, hit the stride immediately and went on to claim 20 wickets in the 50-over World Cup. McGrath said owing to his action and workload, Bumrah needs time off from the game given the amount of effort that goes into his bowling. "The last two strides that he takes, he just powers into the crease. Thus, his momentum increases, and that's where he gets the pace, McGrath said dur

Maxwell lost consciousness after late night drinking session: Report

Flamboyant all-rounder Glenn Maxwell actually lost consciousness and did not respond to efforts to wake him up before he was rushed to hospital after a late night drinking session in Adelaide last week, according to a report. Earlier reports did not mention in detail under what circumstances Maxwell was taken to the hospital but a Sydney Morning Herald report said that he lost consciousness and woke up on the way. Maxwell was watching a concert when the incident took place. "...after the show, during which Maxwell was photographed with numerous members of the crowd, he and his friends retired to the backstage area where they drank and sang songs with 'Six and Out' (band) and other friends invited into the room," the report said, citing unnamed multiple sources. "It was during this interlude that Maxwell lost consciousness and did not immediately respond to attempts by friends to rouse him. An ambulance was then called and Maxwell's next memory is of waking up on the way to hospital

Any decision you make you've got to own it: Pat Cummins on Maxwell

They "didn't cross paths" but Australia captain Pat Cummins was at the same venue from where his World Cup-winning teammate Glenn Maxwell was rushed to hospital after a reported late-night drinking session and the star pacer responded to the incident by saying "any decision you make you've got to own it". Both Cummins and Maxwell were attending a concert by 'Six and Out', the band which features former pacer Brett Lee, in Adelaide. Cummins said he left the venue much before his teammate allegedly lost consciousness and had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. "Potentially, I think only 'Maxy' can answer that one," Cummins was quoted as saying by 'The Sydney Morning Herald' when asked whether Maxwell needed to reconsider his choices. "I was there at the Gov for the concert, but I left pretty early I knew he was in town but I didn't cross paths with Maxy at all," he said. The World Cup-winning captain added, "We're all adults and part of being an adult is you make your own .
