Australia star allrounder Glenn Maxwell has said he has not yet 'given up' on his hopes for Test cricket following his spectacular performance in their ODI World Cup triumph. Maxwell has been in the form of his life, scoring a double century against Afghanistan in the World Cup and recently smashed a T20I hundred against India in their ongoing bilateral series. "I haven't given up on Tests," Maxwell was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald upon his arrival here after being released from the T20I squad. "I think I've just got to be realistic about the timings of the way I've been playing my white-ball cricket." Having made his Test debut against India in Hyderabad in 2013, the white-ball specialist has only played seven matches in his career and his last appearance was in 2017. He has a batting average of 26.07 and has taken eight wickets at 42.62. It remains to be seen if Maxwell is named in their Test squad for the three-match home series against Pakistan beginning at P
With the 47-ball hundred, Maxwell also equalled the record set by Aaron Finch and Josh Inglis (earlier in the series) for the fastest ton by an Australian in men's T20Is.
Despite failing to defend a massive 222 against Australia, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav on Tuesday refused to be harsh on his bowlers, defending them with the shield of heavy dew factor. Glenn Maxwell made his 100th T20I appearance special, smashing an unbeaten 104 that came off just 48 balls as Australia racked up 45 runs in the last two overs to seal a last-ball thriller to post a win after two defeats on the trot. When you're defending 222 with so much dew, you have to give something to the bowlers, Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation ceremony. I felt like how we played at Trivandrum, there was heavy dew, they lost wickets early but wickets in hand for them meant they were always in the game. I told the boys in the drinks break to get Maxwell out quickly but that was insane. India needed to defend 43 runs of the last two overs as the skipper made a bold call giving the penultimate over to left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who was the pick of their bowler having concede

Batting on one leg, Glenn Maxwell used his bat like a butcher's blade and produced an astonishing double century to singlehandedly lift Australia into another World Cup semi-final with a three-wicket win over Afghanistan here on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 292, everyone at the Wankhede Stadium rubbed their eyes in disbelief as Australia slumped to 91 for 7 in 18.3 overs and staring at an annihilation. But Maxwell had other ideas. With some slice of luck, he launched into an over-eager Afghan attack, smashing an unbeaten 201 off 128 balls with the help of 21 fours and 10 sixes to end the game in 46.5 overs. With 12 points and a match left, Australia joined India (16 points) and South Africa (12 points) in the last four stage while 11 incredibly talented Afghanistan cricketers, who had almost ensured that their fairy tale story don't reach its epilogue, found themselves on the wrong side of the result. History will judge if the knock at Wankhede, in terms of match situation, could b
Australian skipper Pat Cummins has no hesitation in rating Glenn Maxwell's magnificent double hundred against Afghanistan as the greatest knock in ODI history, which has allowed everyone to enjoy their very own "I was there" moment. Maxwell scored an unbeaten 201 off 128 balls with the help of 10 sixes and 21 boundaries to pull Australia from the rut at 91 for 7 and added 202 runs with his skipper to finish the match with more than three overs to spare. "I mean (all the innings) I've ever seen. it's probably the greatest ODI innings ever. We're just chatting about it, all the players and we've decided it's one of those days where you just go, 'I was there in the stadium the day Glenn Maxwell chased down that total by himself'," Cummins commented on Maxwell's knock that single-handedly took Australia to semi-final. The Australia captain hoped that Maxwell will be able to recover in time to play their last league game against Bangladesh, in Pune on November 11. "I'm sure, he (Maxwell
Australia's physiotherapist Nick Jones' advise got a "dead man" stand on his feet and the result was an epic World Cup knock that will be talked about for a long time to come. Suffering multiple body cramps, Glenn Maxwell was done and wanted to retire during the World Cup match against Afghanistan on Tuesday night. His skipper Pat Cummins was not complaining either. But Jones knew that the "best bet" for Maxwell was to just stand, minimise his running and keep going for his shots. And it worked. For both Maxwell and Australia. Maxwell is now a proud owner of perhaps the greatest knock under pressure -- an unbeaten 201 that propelled Australia into the semifinals. Jones, working with the Australian team for the last two years and someone who has treated Maxwell for severe cramping, advised against leaving the field because the all-rounder's conditions would have only worsened in the dressing room. "From there it was obvious we were fighting a losing battle," Jones told ...
Glenn Maxwell has been one hell of a freak. Whether it's his breathtaking shots that leaves everyone in awe or the bizarre accidents he has met with -- snapping his knee at a house warming party and more recently, falling off a golf cart that forced him to miss a World Cup game. Before one found a grimacing Maxwell on the ground against Afghanistan, he laid on the lawn of his friend's home for over an hour, last year. Many didn't know what was in store for him. He heard his left knee snap while playfully chasing a friend, who was also his ex-teacher. The moment he slipped and his entire body weight fell on his left leg, he knew that he had done some serious damage to his left leg. He simply couldn't get up in fear as other friends got a makeshift tent and covered him from the rain. He was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a broken fibula which kept him out of a Test series in India earlier this year. Nearing 35, his Test career seemed over but there was something that was s
When Australian skipper Pat Cummins walked at 91 for 7 in a chase of 292 against Afghanistan, all he thought was of somehow getting to 200 so that the net run-rate remains in decent zone before the final World Cup game against Bangladesh. But Glenn Maxwell had other ideas as the Australian skipper watched the "greatest ODI innings" unfold in-front of his eyes with his partner hitting an unbelievable 201 not out off 128 balls to take his team to the semi-final of the global event. "When I went out there, I thought if we can somehow scratch the 200, our net run rate should be pretty good for the semi-final. When Maxi got his 100, I kind of thought, wow, we are within 120 or something. And then I still thought, no way," Cummins was honest enough to admit that he thought winning was out of question. "I think Maxi might be a bit different. I think he is always plotting his way to a win. I think even 200 runs out, he was kind of mapping out how he was going to do it. I was just trying to
