Electric scooter manufacturer River has announced plans to expand its retail footprint by opening 25 stores across the country by March this year. The Bengaluru-headquartered company inaugurated its first store in Coimbatore, the second such facility in Tamil Nadu after the first outlet in Chennai, which was established in 2024. River is backed by marquee investors including Japan-headquartered Yamaha Motor, Mitsui and Company Ltd., Dubai-headquartered Al Futtaim Group among others. As part of its expansion, the company plans to open stores in Vellore, Erode, Tiruppur across the State. It would also set up facilities in Mysuru, Belgaum, Tirupati, Ahmedabad, Pune, Nagpur, and Delhi in the coming months. "After the success of our flagship store in Chennai, we are excited to open (stores) across Tamil Nadu. Many of our employees who have been with us from the start are from this region. TVS Motor Company on Monday reported a 13 per cent increase in total sales at 3,14,639 units in July. The company had posted a total sales of 2,78,855 units in the same month last year, TVS Motor Company said in a statement. Total two-wheelers sales were up 14 per cent at 2,99,658 units last month, as against sales of 2,62,728 units in July 2021, it added. Domestic two-wheeler sales stood at 2,01,942 units as compared to 1,75,169 units in the year-ago month, up 15 per cent, the company said. "The company has invested in strategic relationships and action plans for the supply of semiconductors and the efforts are yielding results with improvements seen this month as well," it said.
The company that manufactured famous scooters like Lambretta and Vijai Super will be shut down after the Cabinet gave its nod to a proposal to close the loss-making state-owned firm, sources said. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) is believed to have given consent to shutting down of Lucknow-based Scooters India Ltd at its meeting on Wednesday, they said. The Scooters India brand name shall be sold separately as the company holds famous brands such as Lambretta, Vijai Super, Vikram and Lambro, shared an official.
