The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) conducted a protest in front of the Japanese consulate here on Wednesday to condemn Renault Nissan’s labour practice, which they allege is against labourers, and “to demand justice for the employees terminated by the company”.
AAP leader M S Chandramohan said while the volunteers of AAP assembled in front of the consulate in the morning to protest, they were arrested by the police. He said the volunteers were planning to organise a protest called Savukku Adi (Whiplash), to show the plight of the workers in factories run by MNCs.
A Renault-Nissan spokesperson said, “Renault-Nissan Alliance strongly believes in fair and ethical employment practices across the globe. Our employment conditions are in line with the prescribed labour laws of the country... RNAIPL is under no obligation to offer full time employment to these trainees. It is offered only on availability of specific roles and performance of the individual trainee.”
