New York Stock Exchange-listed online employment solutions provider, Monster.com, on Thursday marked its foray into India’s campus placement market with its integrated placement platform, Monster College, which is aimed connecting colleges, students and companies.
As part of the initiative, Monster will collaborate with educational institutes across the country to help companies make campus recruitments right from the comfort of their offices. Already over 2,400 colleges and 180,000 students across India have registered for the initiative, Sanjay Modi, managing director (India, West Aisa, and Southeast Asia), told mediapersons here on Thursday.
“With Monster College, our goal is to convert the art of campus hiring into a science. There is a war of talent and this concept will help companies in saving costs and time. It also eliminates the concept of day zero or day one on college campuses,” Modi said.
The concept of Monster College, a resource to seamlessly connect colleges and employers, has grown out of Monster India's initiative for Mumbai-based IT company Syntel’s recruiting in 2010. Syntel was challenged with reaching the most qualified graduates at all AICTE-approved institutions across India, irrespective of geography or reputation.
Christened Syntellect, Modi said, the goal of Syntel’s pan-India hiring initiative was to create a positive national impact by extending job opportunities to graduates at every accredited college and university across the country.

“More than 135,000 students from 2,800-odd colleges took the Syntellect online placement test in its first year, nearly 14,000 were interviewed and more than 5,000 received job offers. Syntel partnered with Monster India to develop the database of colleges, and the back-end infrastructure needed to support the 2010 Syntellect programme. This partnership led to the creation of Monster College,” he added.
According to Modi, ther are over 3,000 engineering colleges in India and over 40 per cent hiring happens through the campus placement route. Monster College offered educational institutes the opportunity to leverage Monster's extensive reach in the corporate world by connecting them to over 20,000 employers across various industries. These include 98 per cent of Fortune 1000 companies, along with Indian multinational organisations, he said.
Monster.com, which pioneered online recruitment in 1994, entered India in 2001 through Monster.com India Private Limited and is one of the leading online players in the Rs-1,800 crore recruitment industry. It is currently headquartered out of Hyderabad with a headcount of 400 people.
Under the initiative, colleges need to register with Monster College and bring their entire student data online. Required credentials will be provided to the registered colleges and students, where respective stakeholders including training and placement officers (TPOs) will have an access to the information.
