The count of registered companies in the country stood at over 2 million at the end of June, while more than 740,000 have been closed due to various reasons, according to official data.
The latest data from the corporate affairs ministry also showed that there were little over 1,215,000 active companies as on June 30. Generally, active companies are those which are regular in making requisite filings to the ministry.
The ministry is implementing the Companies Act as well as the Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) Act.
In June alone, a total of 10,954 companies were registered with collective authorised capital of Rs 1,318.89
