The Chhattisgarh Police's housing agency is mooting a plan to ensure affordable houses for the cops in the state.

The Chhattisgarh Police Housing Corporation-an agency of Chhattisgarh Police-is working on the proposal. If it takes shape, the cops policing in the Naxal-infested Chhattisgarh state will get houses at an affordable price in the colonies to be developed by the corporation.

"The proposal is in the preliminary stage and will be finalised soon," Corporation Managing Director D M Awasthy told Business Standard. Once the proposal was finalized, it would be sent to the state government for the final nod.

The corporation would purchase land or would request the state government to provide at nominal cost for the project, he added. Under the proposal, the corporation would develop a colony and would allot the unit only to the cops working with the Chhattisgarh Police.

The project would start in the state capital of Chhattisgarh, Raipur and would be expanded in the other districts, Awasthy added. The colonies would be planned in such a manner that it would depict a class architect and become a model in the housing sector.

The officials engaged with the project had been specifically asked to ensure that the cost of the unit was well within the reach.
