In last three years, 500 women have availed the benefits of the Swavlamban Yojana that ensure job-oriented programme to make the beneficiary self reliant in terms of employment.
The Swavlamban Yojana was started in 2009-10 in Chhattisgarh. The scheme is being implemented by the women and child welfare department of the state government. The department officials said that as of now about Rs 1.07 crore had been spent in the scheme.
The officials informed that under the programme, computer typing, shorthand, tally accounting, cooking course, sewing-embroidery courses have been included. The applicant can choose course of her interest.

The widow, divorcee and unmarried women in the age group of 35-40 years belonging to the poor families are provided free of cost training in various programme so that they can start self-employment and become financially self-dependent.
The officials said that in year 2010-11, 305 women were provided training under the scheme while 150 beneficiaries were enrolled for different courses in the financial year 2011-12. The figure however came down in the following years as only 50 women have availed the benefits of the Swavlamban Yojana in year 2012-13.
Chief Minister Raman Singh said that Chhattisgarh had been recognized as an ideal state in the country in the field of women empowerment.
"Following 50 per cent reservation for women in Panchayats, a large number of women have got the opportunity to occupy about 56 per cent of the posts in Gram Panchayats, Janpad Panchayats and Jila Panchayats in the state," Singh said while addressing a meeting in Rajnandgaon Tuesday.
