The eBiz project, one of the 27 mission-mode projects under the national e-governance plan being executed by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), is going to have a single-window clearance approach by November 2012.

“Currently, the project is at a pilot stage. We are doing the pilot across five states – Andhra Pradesh (AP), Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Delhi and Haryana – with AP leading in activities. So, we are hopeful of starting the project in the state by November 2012,”said Talleen Kumar, joint secretary, DIPP.

The eBiz project envisages setting up a G2B (government-to-business) interface/portal to serve as a one-stop-shop for delivery of efficient services to investors and industries, right from inception through the entire lifecycle of the business, he said at an event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Friday.

Now, the government interface between the investors and the industry is mostly scattered. Information is spread across multiple websites and government offices. An average investor is mostly dependent on middlemen for guidance. Currently, it takes about six months and 20 visits to various departments for an investor to get the 16 clearances, he said.

The portal would eliminate physical interface with regulatory authorities at central, state and local government level, along with it would reduce costs and increase efficiency. “We will include around 200 services in the portal in the next 10 years,”Kumar said.
