The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Sarbananda Sonowal has said that Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), the National Sports Federation (NSF), for Para Athletes has informed that a total of 19 escorts accompanied the Para athletes who participated in the Para Asian Games, 2014 held at Incheon, South Korea.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Sonowal said, PCI has informed that a contract was signed by the sportspersons and the team officials as per the code of conduct, followed by several National Paralympic Committees across the world. PCI has further informed that no athlete or team official was forced to sign the contract and it was signed by them after agreeing to the terms & conditions of the contract.
Government allows escorts to accompany Para athletes as per the norms existing at the time of the event. The same procedure is applicable to future events also, the Minister added.
