Rice basmati strengthens on increased offtake

Basmati rice strengthened further by Rs 100 per quintal on the wholesale grains market today on increased buying by stockists to meet festive and marriage season demand.

Barley also went up on increased demand from consuming industries.

In the rice section, basmati common and Pusa 1121 variety remained in demand and advanced by Rs 100 each to Rs 5,500-5,600 and Rs 4,600-5,200 per quintal respectively. Basmati rice (Lal Quila) also traded higher by the same margin to Rs 9,500 per quintal.

Barley rose by Rs 30 to Rs 1200-1220 per quintal. Traders said the rise in rice basmati prices was mostly attributed to increased buying by stockists in wake of rising demand.
