Senior Congressman Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil on Thursday held a meeting with BJP MP Dilip Gandhi to discuss the candidature of their sons from Ahmednagar Lok Sabha constituency.
"We discussed the candidature of his and my son for Ahmednagar. He (Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil) has requested me not to field my son against his son for this seat, but I have not made any commitment yet. I need some time to make the decision," Gandhi said in a telephonic conversation with ANI on Thursday.
Patil's son is contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from Ahmednagar while Gandhi's son Suvendra too will be contesting polls as an Independent candidate from the same seat.
The news of Suvindra contesting from Ahmednagar seat comes days after the three-time sitting MP Dilip Gandhi's name was dropped by the BJP.
Lok Sabha elections will be held in Maharashtra in four phases on April 11, 18, 23 and 29 and results will be declared on May 23.
