After featuring bra-and-yoga-pants-wearing American model Paulina Gretzky on the cover of the magazine a year ago, Golf Digest has made the headlines again as it caused more controversy with this year's fitness issue cover featuring Lexi Thompson wearing nothing up top but a towel.
Golf Digest had featured bra-and-yoga-pants-wearing Gretzky on the cover of the magazine, on the rough grounds that she was physically fit and engaged to a PGA Tour golfer; and now they have done it again as this year's fitness issue cover model is 20-year-old Thompson displaying her side boobs in a towel, because she's a professional golfer.
Gold Digest chairman Jerry Tarde said that they have come a long way from a year ago when the LPGA condemned their choice of Gretzky and Holly Sonders in 2013 as the cover images for the magazine's annual fitness issue, News.com.au reported.
Tarde added that one can have stunning beauty and the highest level of golf performance at the same time, as demonstrated this year by Thompson, Stacy Lewis, Cheyenne Woods and Michelle Wie, questioning if anyone had ever seen anyone more fit in evening wear.
The 6-foot Thompson, a Florida native who as a 12-year-old in 2007 became the youngest player to qualify for the US Women's Open, was excited about the cover shot, posting the photo on Instagram with a caption that read in part that she is so pumped to represent fitness and power, adding '#LPGA #GirlPower' to her post.
