American tennis star John Isner knocked Japanese fourth seed Kei Nishikori out of the Miami Open with an impressive performance that saw him record a straight set win in the quarterfinal draw.

The big-serving 12th seed didn't face a single break point and hit 13 aces and 33 winners during a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Nishikori.

With Nishikori losing to Isner, Britain's Andy Murray would now return to number three in the world, the BBC reported.

Meanwhile, in the first women's semifinal Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro upset German ninth seed Andrea Petkovic 6-3, 6-3 and she would now play seven-times Miami champion Serena Williams, who defeated third seed Simona Halep 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, in the final, and she would also appear in the world's top 10 for the first time.

Murray would face Tomas Berdych in the semifinal on Friday, while Isner would face top seed Novak Djokovic in his last-four tie, the report added.
