Police today booked two cricket coaches for allegedly duping a player of several lakhs of rupees on promise of giving him break in IPL and Ranji trophy matches.

Station House Officer (SHO) Lakhwinder Singh said Satya Devi, a resident of Roshan Vihar colony here, lodged a complaint that her son Sahil was lured by cricket coach Aditya Bhandari at Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar, saying that he would give Sahil a chance to play in IPL and Ranji Trophy matches.

Bhandari introduced Sahil to Manoj Kumar alias Monty, a resident of Yamuna Nagar, and they allegedly took Rs 11 lakh from his mother Satya Devi, who works as a teacher in a government middle school in Saidoke village in Amritsar.

They also took Sahil to Hyderabad in Andhra Pardesh where he was given Cricket coaching for a period of 45 days, but Sahil did not get a chance to play in either IPL or Ranji Trophy, the complainant said.

In the meantime they returned Rs 2.34 lakh to Devi, the SHO said.

Her complaint was investigated following which a cheating case was registered against Aditya Bhandari and Manoj Kumar who were absconding, the SHO said.
