3 youths attack constable, on the run

Three youths attacked a Armed Police constable and stabbed him with a beer bottle late last evening near Thirumangalam in the district over a quarrel during a temple function, police said today.

23-year old constable Kannan had intervened in a quarrel between two groups during the consecration of a local temple at Chennampatti and pacified them two days ago.

Three members of a group, who got angry with the constable quarrelled with him when he was waiting at a bus stand beat him up last evening.

One of them hit the constable with a beer bottle, injuring him, police said adding he had been hospitalised.
 

A search was on for the three youths.
