A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Bikapur Kotwali police station area of Faizabad district, police said today.
The girl had gone missing on Thursday evening after she went to attend a birthday party in her neighbourhood, they said.
Her body was found the next day in a pond, they said.
"The postmortem report has confirmed that the girl was raped and then strangulated," Faizabad Additional SP P R Shrivastava said.
A case has been registered in this regard, he added.
The girl was a student of Class 2.
