The Calcutta High Court today passed an interim stay on recruitment in the state's civic police volunteer force, terming the process as a 'scam'.

Justice Sanjib Banerjee stayed fresh appointments in civic police volunteer force in West Bengal till further orders.

Thousands of youths were appointed in CPVF by the state police since it was introduced in 2013.

CPVF was introduced in 2013 to appoint youths who would assist regular police personnel in jobs like traffic management and general law and order duties.

The recruitment process, which were allegedly done through interviews only, was challenged by 10 youths from Bankura district alleging bias and discrepancies.

The next date for hearing has been fixed by the court on May nine.
