Eyeing the huge Indian nuclear market, top Canadian atomic equipment companies along with 128-member Organisation of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCI) will visit Mumbai from Friday to discuss business opportunities with Indian firms.

Coming barely two months after the India-Canada civil nuclear cooperation pact became operational, the visit is aimed at understanding the companies, their requirements and the overall potential of the country's nuclear industry.

Though India and Canada inked the pact in 2010, it came into force in September this year. Under the agreement, not only India will get technological expertise from Canadian companies on various fronts, but Canada will also help the country to import uranium from there which is crucial for India's nuclear power reactors.

"OCI and a delegation of leading Canadian companies, in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment and the High Commission of Canada, will be visiting Mumbai this week to discuss potential business opportunities for Canada's nuclear industry.

"The growing demand for high quality services and equipment in India's nuclear energy sector represents a promising export market for Canadian nuclear suppliers, notably in Ontario," a Canadian High Commission release said here today.

The delegation is also likely to meet Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) officials.

OCI is an association of 185 leading Canadian suppliers to the nuclear industry in Canada and the international marketplace.

The private-sector delegates will also be joined by representatives from Ontario Power Generation, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
