Former Trinamool Congress leader Asif Khan, who has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a cheating case, was admitted to a state-run hospital here early today after complaining of illness.

"Khan was admitted to NRS Hospital after he complained of uneasiness," Bidhannagar Police DC DD Kankar Prasad Barui said.

Khan had, however, undergone a medical checkup at Bidhannagar subdivisional hospital after his arrest last evening and was then taken to New Town police station.

Khan, who had lashed out at a section of the party leadership and accused them of being involved in the Saradha chit fund scam, was arrested from his residence at Tiljala in the eastern part of the city in connection with a cheating case in a land deal in the Rajarhat-New Town area.

He is scheduled to be produced before a court at Barasat today, but this will happen only after he is released from hospital, Barui said.

Khan was a member of the Trinamool Congress till last month, but quit the party accusing a section of its leadership of being involved in the Saradha chit fund scam.

The special crime branch of CBI had also grilled Asif Khan, who was the editor of a Bengali daily 'Aajker Kalom', in connection with the Saradha scam.
