Goa polls: Sixty nominees file nomination papers

Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was among 60 candidates who filed their nomination papers for next month's Assembly elections for various constituencies.

As per the records available with Chief Electoral Office here, 17 sitting MLAs were amongst the candidates who submitted their documents for the February 4 elections for the 40-member House.

Ofthe60 nominations, 21 are from BJP, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (7), Congress (6), Aam Aadmi Party (11), Goa Forward (3), Communist Party (2), United GoansParty (1) and rest from smaller outfits and Independents.

With this, total number of candidates who have filed nominations reached 70. The last date for filing the nomination papers is January18.
 

"The scrutiny of the applications would be done on January 19," Additional Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti told reporters today.
